router vs switch question

Postby Socaltom » Mon Jun 10, 2013 4:49 pm

A little bit off topic but.

Ok, I've got a 100mbps router/gateway as the primary DHCP server on my home network. it feeds a gigbit switch and another router ( dhcp turned off).

Will I get different performance within my LAN if I plug into a different device?
For example, I've got my server plugged into the gigabit switch, and I have my PC plugged into the switch , will it get gigabit speed or 100mbps ?

If I plug them into the gigabit router ( not the gateway) ?

Thanks
Tom

If both your server and PC are plugged into the gigabit switch and both the server and PC has gigabit network cards, the communication between the server and PC will be Gigabit.
