Goflex Net Fails to Connect

Postby Wesman26 » Wed Feb 29, 2012 10:10 am

So I bought a Goflex Net a few weeks ago and immediately had a problem upon the first reboot. I thought I followed the instructions to the T, but apparently not. I already posted here to no avail. I feel like my problem has to do with the MAC address assignment as my symptoms mirror those found here.

The problem is that I can't ssh into the Goflex. When I have the harddrive connected (it's a SATA drive if that matters at all) the Goflex appears to start up and everything just fine except it won't connect to the router. The light on the front of the Goflex isn't flashing, the lights to show drive usage don't work (but that's to be expected), and the connection LEDs on my router keeps showing the Goflex trying to connect but then failing/disconnecting every 15-20 seconds.

When I have the drive disconnected, the light at the front of the Goflex constantly flashes which I think means it's still setting up, but the light on the router stays solid as if the device has connected. Despite this, I still can't ssh in and my.pogoplug.com doesn't show it.

Following what others were told I did my best to try to fix my bricked Goflex with $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'sudo ip addr add 10.10.10.5 label wlan0:0 dev wlan0') which as far as my research can tell me should be the iproute2 version of $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'sudo ifconfig wlan0:0 10.10.10.5') but so far no one has told me whether or not this is right. They both seem to set up aliases, so I would think it should be doing it's job.

The problem is that $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'nc -luvv 10.10.10.5 6666') returns nothing other than $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Warning: Inverse name lookup failed for '10.10.10.5'
Listening on any address 52806') When I exit it tells me there were 0 bytes received and 0 bytes sent and exits.

I'm sorry to bother the forum so much with this, but it's been more than a week since my last post, I haven't gotten any answers, my Goflex is still bricked, and as far as I can tell there's nothing I can do to fix it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

First off, until you've found it to literally not do anything, it is not a brick.

Now then,
- I have to assume that you are planning on using netcat via your wireless adapter?
- I've never had to use vv in the nc options, just nc -lu 10.10.10.5 6666
- There have been some recent reports of dhcpd issues across multiple platforms. Systems come up, but get nothing.
- You might want to consider Wireshark or the like to see if it is communicating and failing.

Thank you for the response. I only used the double verbose argument because without it I was getting absolutely nothing. I'll try NC again over ethernet and if that fails I'll check out wireshark and post again.

Thanks again,

Sorry for the wait, I had exams and stuff I needed to take care of.
At any rate, I retried netcat over ethernet to the same effect. Wireshark showed me a whole lot of the following
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', ' 0.000866 BelkinIn_0d:6b:f0 -> Broadcast ARP 60 Who has 192.168.2.4? Tell 192.168.2.1
0.219742 02:50:43:fb:fe:ab -> Broadcast ARP 60 Who has 192.168.2.4? Tell 0.0.0.0
1.728057 02:50:43:fb:fe:ab -> Broadcast ARP 60 Who has 192.168.2.4? Tell 0.0.0.0
3.481970 02:50:43:fb:fe:ab -> Broadcast ARP 60 Who has 192.168.2.4? Tell 0.0.0.0
7.771316 BelkinIn_0d:6b:f0 -> Broadcast ARP 60 Who has 192.168.2.4? Tell 192.168.2.1
') So it looks like the goflex is trying to connect (02:50:43:fb:fe:ab is the MAC address on it, though it's not the MAC address it's supposed to have) but not quite making it. I'm not sure what the Belkinln_0d:6b:f0 MAC address is all about. My router doesn't show it under the dhcp list like it does for the goflex. I don't think it's the router because I don't have a Belkin, I have a Dynex. Anyway I hope this helps someone help me.

Looking forward to hearing back from you soon,

Hey,
So I've let this fester for about a month now and I've played with some stuff but I still can't seem to fix my problem. Does anyone have anymore suggestions?

Sounds to me like dynex model is made by belkin.. note the 192.168.2.1

Alright, that puts my mind at ease as far as what what was up with the Belkin entry, but I still don't know what to do to get my goflex to connect.

Couple of things to try:
- Change the cable attached to the GFN
- Edit the drive's /etc/rc.conf offline and make it a static IP (exclusive of below)
- Edit the drives /etc/rc.local to add a dhcpcd call (exclusive of above)
