Setting up an FTP server

Thank you very much, updating the package list like you said solved a bunch of the problems I was having. In the end I went with proftpd instead of pure-ftpd, not really sure what the advantages of one over the other is but I was able to get proftpd running by following the instructions here: http://archlinuxarm.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2225.
