How to reduce writing on the SD card?

Postby MReimer » Thu Aug 22, 2013 3:54 pm

Hello,

I want to run a Olinuxino board 24/7 to log data and send it to the internet.

To make the SD card live longer, I would prefer to mount "/" read only and perhaps disable logging completely or limit it to a very small amount that I can keep in RAM.

Did someone ever do something like that? Any ideas what I have to do to make the system live "almost forever"?

Which olinuxino? There are ~4 of them.

Look into using journald's "volatile" storage option, logrotate, and tmpfs if possible. There isn't that much that gets written in the first place when nothing is going on.
