Cleared out entire xinitrc, am I missing something now?

Hi guys,

I recently installed this version of Arch on my Pi2 to see how both work. I finished the initial setup with no trouble and the system runs just fine in tty mode. I want to move to a DE however and chose awesome. I installed the necessary files as per (video tutorial) https://goo.gl/PxlzTt and the testing environment of $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'startx') does work and start.

Moving on, I copied the xinitrc from /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc to my home directory under .xinitrc and added $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'exec awesome') to it. Running startx again resulted in the same test screen from Xorg spawning and not awesome. After fiddling around and searching for a while I just deleted every line apart from the last one. This actually results in a working WM but I am not sure if I deleted anything important, which may come bite me down the line.

Any help or advice is much appreciated.
