Failed installing on pi4

Postby ionmich » Tue Oct 12, 2021 11:33 pm

I have failed following instructions on three different web pages trying to install the 64bit version on my pi4. I have two different OSes working so the hardware is OK. But I only have 2GB of memory so perhaps that is the problem. I am working with ArchLinuxARM-rpi-aarch64-latest.tar.gz with a checked md5sum.
Could someone please point me to download and installation instructions for the correct version. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the speedy response. Yes I used the same AArch64 Installation instructions you linked to twice before and again this time. The installation stops at much the same point with the following typical output on my terminal...

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', ' [ 943.405566] audit: type=1131 audit(1634135505.141.27): pid=1 uid=0 auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 msg='unit=systemd-tmpfiles-clean comm="systemd" exe="/usr/lib/systemd/systemd" hostname=? addr=? terminal=? res=success' ')

It seems to be asking for input it never requested. Did I miss something in creating the boot micro SD? Should I be posting this in another forum area?

Your SD card might be faulty. I haven't tried on a 2GB model, but it should just work. I used it on a 1GB 3B+ as well as a Pi4 with both 4GB and 8GB of memory. But it does not work on a Pi400. In order to get that to work, you need to install the "linux-raspberrypi4" package/kernel.

Thanks for trying to help me. But no success even trying with different sized micro-SD's. It's not a problem as I have four other operating systems (32bit and 64bit) that boot and work just fine. Even Manjoro. I was curious about Arch. I guess it's not meant for me to use it.

Well, I use aarch64 on my RPi4 and if I can do it, anyone can do it..

It's just that you have to follow the instructions as provided by solskogen to the letter from the beginning, i.e, starting with ARMv7 section and implementing the instructions at AArch64 section. And you have to do it from a linux pc (I use another pi for it) and obviously you have to have root priviliges when you start the procedure.

I've followed this procedure many times and it's just correct. Just did it yesterday actually. And 2GB memory is fine, also any size sd card will do (I use 4GB through 64GB without problems).

Maybe you should try first to only install ARMv7 and see if that works. If you give up that easily then Arch is indeed not for you..
