Packages database doesn't update anymore since few weeks.

Postby Popolon » Sun Jan 12, 2025 3:18 pm

I noticed there are no more package update on an arch-chrooted aarch64 ALARM installation since few weeks.

Tried to change mirrorlist to specific mirror, tried to remove /var/lib/pacman/sync to force upgrade, and even tried to install a fresh new chrooted install from the latest tarball.

In all cases, I see on the website that kernel is currently linux-aarch64 6.12.7-5, but is 6.12.1-2 from decemeber 22 on my system (new tarball or old one), that confirm the problem

Did someone else have the same issue? Is there currently update problems with mirrors?

I also noticed this. In all Mirrors I opened the 'aarch64/sync' file is dated 2024-12-22 and my update history reflects that.

Also not receiving any updates, doesn't seem like anything new is getting through.

Here also no updates for weeks.
Also no information or announcements about this here.
This has nothing to do with anything called 'rolling release' anymore!
Seems like ALARM is finally abandoned now without further notice.
Changing to DietPi now as I need a reliable and updated OS.

You mean why there is no more updates on aarch64? Where?

Or did you mean this topic?

Its a bit cryptic and its taken me a while to search through the forums and find the threads that are relevant as I too have been wondering about this.

TL;DR Some key packages (e.g. Python) are being rebuilt.

Relevant posts/threads that I found hinting at this...

It's probably related to a python build that the developers are working on. A lot of packages won't be able to download from the website because the mirrors aren't synced yet. They won't sync until python and all packages dependent on python are done compiling, to prevent breakage. There's no ETA, but it's been a few weeks now, so I can't imagine it would be too terribly much longer to wait it out.

I couldn't find anything in Announcements nor pinned to the top of ARMv8 Devices sub-forums nor explicitly stating that this is the case so I may be wrong. If there is an existing thread for us to read I would be grateful if a link could be added to this thread.

As much as I would like stuff like that be announced, it isn't. But there are multiple threads about the topic on the forum on this.

There was effectivly no clear announce about this, and don't understand why for it take several weeks? That was not the case in previous python upgrade. As far I know there is to build python modules dependencies tree and rebuild everything. This has been done quickly on Arch Linux and Arch Linux RISC-V, why for Arch Linux ARM doesn't use the same process?

This also mean that the rsync security hole that was patched before it was even announced on Arch Linux/ArchLinux RISC-V is still here (with probably lot of other security holes) in ALARM :(

1 announcement vs multiple threads on the topic + multiple posts saying such threads exist but not linking to them.

It doesn't take much to copy and paste a URL.

Fundamentally there seems little point in having an Announcments sub-forum though if its not going to be used.
