swap file on samsung peach?

proc/swaps is empty:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'cat /proc/swaps
Filename Type Size Used Priority')

and
dmesg | grep swap
just returns nothing

i end modules at school on this month.. when that happens ill have time reinstall everyting.. hopefully ill be able to enable swap with a partition, but i dont really know if there is a diference between file and partition swaps.. so i have a feeling in my gut that ill get the same error with a swap partition..
