USB Hard Drive not recognized by Sheevaplug

Does anyone know how I can manipulate the timing of the Sheevaplug to give my hard drive more time to spin up?

I believe my hard drive doesn't spin-up fast enough to be recognized by the Sheevaplug on boot, but I am able to get the Sheevaplug to see my hard drive by plugging in the drive's powercord once the Sheevaplug is fully booted.
