Yes USB attached... rootfs is also attached via USB

This could explain some of the slower speeds, as the busier the USB bus, the less you can crank out of it.

Any suggestions to make it work faster?

EDIT: Is it possible to connect my external USB HDD (WD My Book Essential - separately powered) to the pogoplugs internal
sata adapter?
