From these directions

Download and extract rootfs tarball:
cd /tmp
wget http://archlinuxarm.org/os/ArchLinuxARM ... est.tar.gz
mkdir root
mount /dev/sda2 root
tar -xf ArchLinuxARM-veyron-latest.tar.gz -C root

I get this

localhost tmp # wget http://archlinuxarm.org/os/ArchLinuxArm ... est.tar.gz

I see a slight difference in instructions and your output:

The name of the file to wget is "ArchLinuxARM-veyron-latest.tar.gz"

Your output shows this: "ArchLinuxArm-veyron-latest.tar.gz"

Typing mistake?

I tried a few variations on the url's capitalizations, with no luck. it still keeps redirecting until it 404s. Would there possibly be an archive where I could get past builds from?
Thanks again for everyone who's taken a look for me.
For the record,
https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv ... ebook-c11/
These are the instructions I'm using and I'm attempting to install it to an sd card, which so far has gone fine.

Edit: If there is anyone who has successfully installed arch on the hisense c11, please let me know if you had any troubles with the installation process, if you would be so kind. :)

Well, I did get it going. I have to think that the typing was your mistake; I didn't get those errors. As I'm an Arch noob, I made plenty of other mistakes though, including lots of 404 errors once I started adding packages to the system; once you get it to a CLI and run wifi-menu, I recommend the first thing you do is $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '# pacman -Syu'). Eventually (over the long weekend we Yanks just got) I put together a useful system with LXDE (XFCE also installed as a backup), Chromium (lightest full-featured browser I found), SMPlayer, Audacious (would have stuck with LXMusic but it crashes), even GIMP seems to run well despite the lack of horsepower in the C11. I think my biggest noobiescrewup was the trouble I had getting LXDE to start; until now I've had no experience with systemd, didn't know enough to read up on it. The trick is $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '# systemctl start lxdm').

Anyway I suggest you triple- or quadruple-check your typing and caps and such and keep trying. Arch Linux, and especially ARM, will not forgive much of anything along those lines.

Thanks for your kind reply. I haven't tried again since I posted initially, I'll go through and triple check the syntax and perhaps one of these time will hit the jackpot . Chromeos is great, but running arch on a$75 Chromebook is too cool not to do.

Regards,
Zack

Well...Yeah! I found ChromeOS limiting. You must use Google Docs...but Google Docs won't open some of my old .doc files, for instance. But a full Linux install, you are limited only by your own abilities, not what Google thinks you should be able to do.

BTW I also tried a chroot install of Ubuntu, and still found the ChromeOS kernel blocking some actions (for instance I couldn't get root access to configure CUPS). But should you decide to go that route, for some reason the default Precise installation in Crouton won't work, but Trusty will. You can make just about anything in ArchLinuxARM work, just a matter of honing your own skills, and of course perspiration lubrication.

I also found Crouton working fine but limiting. I wanted a dual-boot Linux on the Hisense C11.
I tried Arch Linux but could not get X11 to work properly.

Then I switched to Ubuntu, which runs smoothly on the light and surprisingly solid C11.
Web browsing is peppy with chromium browser; video, latex, programming etc all work well.

I made an automated installation script here (I call Hibuntu):
https://github.com/com-py/Hibuntu
The default is to install 14.04 LTS (trusty), which has great ARM support.
But you can change the base url to install any flavor, including the latest 16.04 LTS.

Didn't know that Ubuntu would run well on a C11. Might try it out and see how that works for me.
