[SOLVED] no luck installing arch on rpi3

Following the guide results in the pre-console rainbow screen - some suggests it indicates firmware corruption. Tried many different sd cards now - Sandisk Ultra 64Gb (10) | Kingston 16Gb (10) | Adata 8Gb (10).

Another odd thingy: this build will boot alright (Sandisk), i'm unable to login however. I ran RetroPie on my Sandisk previously, so it's definitely compatible.

I'm out of ideas here. Any help would be highly appreciated.

EDIT:
i managed to login on RaspArch (root:root) via the following method:
instead of root:root ownership on the files i used user:users, and used sudo when needed rather than doing all as root.
