newbie: why kernel 3.14.79?

Postby highpost » Wed Oct 12, 2016 12:04 am

I'm starting to use Arch Linux Arm with an ODROID C2. I've installed the OS and now I'm trying to get my WiFi dongle working. That's not going well and so I'm looking at installing the dkms version of a driver.

But it looks like the kernel version is 3.14.79 and not something more recent like 4.7 or 4.8.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '$ uname -a
Linux alarm 3.14.79-3-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Sep 22 18:44:33 MDT 2016 aarch64 GNU/Linux')
Also, the version of the kernel package isn't reported by pacman -Q:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '$ pacman -Q | grep -i kernel')
while the kernel headers seem to be based on 4.8:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '$ pacman -Q | grep header
linux-aarch64-headers 4.8.1-1')
and I'm also getting a kernel header warning from pacman:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'No kernel 4.8.1-1-ARCH modules. You must install them to use DKMS!')
