pacman -Syu Error Message No Packages Upgraded

Have ALARM running on my little Zaurus SL-C3200.

Haven't done a system upgrade for at least 9 months. Wasn't using Zaurus during this time for various reasons.

Now, when I tried to do upgrade, I get:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
# pacman -Syu

**** after downloading long list of files, got message:

error: failed to commit transaction (unexpected error)
Errors occurred. no packages were upgraded.
')

Any suggestions as to how to get upgrade to work?
