[SOLVED] Can't connect over ssh after upgrade

Postby freijon » Tue Nov 15, 2016 12:13 am

The following packages got updated today:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[2016-11-14 21:27] [ALPM] transaction started
[2016-11-14 21:27] [ALPM] upgraded iana-etc (20160927-1 -> 20161110-1)
[2016-11-14 21:27] [ALPM] upgraded ca-certificates-cacert (20140824-3 -> 20140824-4)
[2016-11-14 21:27] [ALPM] upgraded graphite (1:1.3.8-1 -> 1:1.3.9-1)
[2016-11-14 21:27] [ALPM] upgraded linux-raspberrypi (4.4.30-1 -> 4.4.31-1)
[2016-11-14 21:27] [ALPM-SCRIPTLET] >>> Updating module dependencies. Please wait ...
[2016-11-14 21:27] [ALPM] transaction completed
[2016-11-14 21:27] [ALPM] running 'update-ca-trust.hook'...')

After a reboot I was unable to login to my rhasperry pi with SSH. I get the following error:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'ssh -vvv rpi
OpenSSH_7.3p1, OpenSSL 1.0.2j 26 Sep 2016
debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config
debug2: resolving "rpi" port 22
debug2: ssh_connect_direct: needpriv 0
debug1: Connecting to rpi [192.168.178.31] port 22.
debug1: connect to address 192.168.178.31 port 22: Connection refused
ssh: connect to host rpi port 22: Connection refused
')

However, I can ping the machine just fine. Unfortunately I have no monitor or keyboard, all I can do is physically remove the SD card and mount it on my laptop and read logfiles and change files. I couldn't find anything related to ssh in the logfiles.

Any ideas?

I found out that the rasperry pi is not booting correctly, it enters emergency mode because it has problems mounting /dev/mmcblk0p2. It seems the "reboot" command corrupted the file system by unmounting too quickly and leaving some files opened. I tried running fsck but with no luck so far. I'm desperately trying to fix the corrupted filesystem, I really don't want to reinstall the device. Any help would be appreciated

I found the problem. In my /etc/fstab I still had an entry where I tried to mount my external harddisk. Since I unplugged that harddisk some time ago (and probably never did a reboot since then) I landed in emergency mode after a fresh boot because the device failed to mount. Problem is solved

I should note, this was not a "reboot left files open", but an oops in the fstab where delayed/no-auto/fail ok was not set.

@WarheadsSE, you are right, my second post was something I found in the internet and was not correct and should be ignored. The real cause was the outdated /etc/fstab entry.
