Noob: Installing programs not in repository?

Postby evanl81 » Sun May 08, 2011 12:15 pm

Hi,

Pardon my ignorance - this is my first time browsing these forums. I was planning on buying a pogoplug today, but it has to be able to run Couch Potato (http://couchpotatoapp.com). I just want to make sure I understand correctly: with Arch Linux ARM, can I only install applications that are within the repository, or can I install "external" programs as well? If anyone knows the answer to this, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks.

You can install every program that you can build from source. BTW CouchPotato appears to be in the AUR(Arch User Repository).

It's available in our repo, the package is couchpotato-git. You can just pacman -S couchpotato-git

In general, if you find some package we don't already have and would like to see it in the repo, submit an issue on the github tracker at https://github.com/Arch Linux ARM/Arch Linux ARM/issues requesting the package, and we'll get it compiled and packaged.
Arch Linux ARM exists and continues to grow through community support, please donate today!
