ArchLinux ARM, what's open source and what's blobed?

Postby kermit1 » Wed Apr 19, 2017 5:37 pm

Hello,

Does anyone have a good idea of what is a currently a blob or non-free software in ArchLinux's ARMv8 distribution? I'm guessing the Wifi driver is non-free.

Thanks!

It's difficult to guess which drivers are free are which are nonfree, ALARM is like Arch x86, so to know which drivers are nonfree or libre, you could visit https://h-node.org/
And if you want to know which specific wifi cards work with FLOSS, you can take a look here https://wiki.parabola.nu/WiFi_devices_k ... inux-libre
that's a fully free version of the Arch Linux and ALARM distros, so what works there, works only and exclusively with free and open source software.

I hope I've helped you

EDIT: Parabola's version for ARM is only for ARMv7, but it shouldn't affect since v7 is 32 bits and v8 is 64 bits, so they are compatible, like i686 with x64
