Question re making bootable sd card

Postby johnkay » Sat Jun 03, 2017 4:48 pm

Following the guidance on

https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv ... x/zedboard

At the point where I issue the command

bsdtar -xpf ArchLinuxARM-zedboard-latest.tar.gz -C mnt

I receive a flurry of create errors, a la

./usr/share/terminfo/P/P9-W: Can't create 'usr/share/terminfo/P/P9-W'
./usr/share/terminfo/P/P14-M: Can't create 'usr/share/terminfo/P/P14-M'
./usr/share/terminfo/P/P14-M-W: Can't create 'usr/share/terminfo/P/P14-M-W'
./usr/share/terminfo/P/P9-8: Can't create 'usr/share/terminfo/P/P9-8'
./usr/share/terminfo/P/P8-W: Can't create 'usr/share/terminfo/P/P8-W'
./usr/share/terminfo/P/P14-W: Can't create 'usr/share/terminfo/P/P14-W'

I have tried running under an Arch VM and an Arch live boot CD, but to no avail.

I have tried chmod 777 on the mnt and on sdb.

Is there something implied in the instructions that I am not doing?

Regards and thanks.

Do you have proper rights on the SD card? When extracting a root file system, you should be root in order to set all the rights and ownership information in the file system.

Andre, yes, I double checked my rootness

I accidentally solved the problem, here's what I did. Instead of using

bsdtar -xpf ArchLinuxARM-zedboard-latest.tar.gz -C mnt

I chdir into mnt, then used

bsdtar -xpf ArchLinuxARM-zedboard-latest.tar.gz

And it worked fine.

I think there was a problem with the -C switch.

Thanks!!
