I keep getting "no screens found" when I run "startx" . what do I need to add to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file ?

Better yet, now that I know I need to be on the terminal on the pi logged in as alarm to "startx" without sudo, I want to reinstall and start clean. can you outline the exact steps I need to do in order to get lxde ? ive looked at countless tutorials, but i need exact steps. thanks
