transferring between Arch Linux ARM install units

Postby Socaltom » Tue May 31, 2011 4:50 pm

I'm expecting my new Pogoplug pro today. I intend to use it exclusively to serve up video to my Tivo units, either through PyTivo or Streambaby. In order to keep the overhead as small as possible, I'm trying to avoid adding samba on it, but I need a way to add files as I rip them from DVDs.
The DVDs get ripped on a windows 7 box, and I can easily transfer them to my current box which has samba running fine. Is there an easy way to transfer between the two plugboxs? can I wget or is there something I'm missing?
Thanks
Tom

maybe the scp protocol between the plugs?

I rip music from my Win7 laptop, build torrent file, then transfer the folder via Samba and add the file to Transmission-cli. Or, if downloading, have the plug convert files (if flac, to alac), load em to a Samba folder and just retrieve it. But between two non-gui boxes i think scp would be best. Never tried wget for intranet transfers, but my guess would be that works too. I'm just use to scp from my Ubuntu box chatting with my plug.

Side question: Whats the difference between PyTivo and Minidlna? Thought both could stream video to the Tivo. :?:

What about having the pro mount a samba share and rsync?

I just transfer via samba, to my ext3/4 disks, and I get > 20MB/s. It's not the 160 I get directly attached, not, but it's a lot faster than to an NTFS drive on the plug (4-5MB/s).

I'm not familiar with minidlna.pyTivo transfers files similar to transfers between tivos.it can also pull video from tivos or push it to tivos via a web interface. It can also transcode from variius formats to mpeg2 that tivos can handle via ffmpeg ( if you have time or processor power)

While its a bit late, I found this Linux command recently that has a simple method to transfer files between Linux boxes without Samba. SCP uses the SSH route to transfer files. Its a little clunk but it works on my two boxes.
