GoFlex Net Green Blinking Light cannot SSH to device

Postby SkiGeek » Thu Jun 09, 2011 12:34 am

I was going through the steps to install Plug Apps on my GoFlexNet and got to the step where it says to insert a formatted Disk. I then went to the link on formatting and could not get the commands to work and it looks as if the folder /dev/sda was missing.

After stumbling around trying to figure out what I needed to do next I, I looked over the commands issued, then decided I would just reboot and see if I could get it back to the OOTB system. When it rebooted it just went to a constant green blinky light and I cannot SSH in.

Did I brick the device?

Thanks in advance.

No, you didn't. I had a similar issue. Read here viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1215 and follow the link in the second post.

In short, you need to:
1. Setup netconsole on a computer running linux (or a VM)
2. See what the problem is
3. Create a ubit rescue disk
4. Boot the disk
5.HERE, the difference from all the other (old) instructions. Go into your router and see what IP address your GoFlex acquired from the router. Do an ssh ssession to that address.
6. continue installing from where you left off.

If you are installing on a SATA drive, you should probably have it plugged in when you turn on GoFlex

Good luck

If you got to that point in the install process, all you really need to do is create a rootfs drive on another linux box. Partition and format to ext3, label it "rootfs," extract the rootfs tarball, unmount the drive, plug it in to the powered-off GFN, and then power up. Should boot.

use a spare flash drive and extract the rootfs to it as root (or sudo su, not just sudo)

Had the Goflex Home for about a year. Changed broadband supplier and since then the Goflex Home has constantly been flashing a green light and not booting up. Help would be appreciated.
