Speakers play sound; headphones and USB audio card do not

Postby djrivington » Mon Feb 05, 2018 2:27 pm

Hello all. First post here. I'm new to arch but have been dabbling in linux for about a year or so. I'm enjoying the freedom of customization and crash course in system maintenance, but I've been dealing with a few kinks I have yet to work out on my own. The most pressing of which is that I can't get either my headphone port or USB audio card to work.

I'm running arch with XFCE from an SD card on an Asus Chromebook Flip C101PA.

I've followed through the wikis for ALSA and Pulse and have dissected all relevent forums and video tutorials I can find. I also took screenshots of the default Chrome OS alsa configuration and recreated it on my arch installation: No beans. I'm not sure what to try at this point so any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if my post lacks needed info and thanks in advance to anyone reading it.

I've unmuted all chanels and reinstalled alsa-utils, pulseaudio, and pavucontrol several times as well as arch itself. I also manually enabled the dongle with pacmd and have tried disabling the internal sound card. Here is some more info:

During this install I used ' alsaucm ' to set $this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'ALSA_CONFIG_UCM=/opt/alsa/ucm alsaucm -c rk3399-gru-sound set _verb HiFi') per instructions from: https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv ... lip-c101pa

Only further info from source: $this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'N')ote that the port will display as "Headphones" despite using the speakers. When paired with pulseaudio and pulseaudio-alsa, be aware that the full volume range is addressed through levels 0-9 of the Master volume control. Levels 10-100 provide no additional gain.

This was indeed the case and I am wondering if there is a way to now correct that, although if I can just get sound to my earphones I will be plenty happy. The instructions don't provide any additional info on sound config beyond what I shared. This makes me wonder if the problem I'm having is a known bug that I just haven't lucked into seeing discussed anywhere. I have the same issue whether I set the sound card this way or not. Also I think I should mention that pavucontrol shows that sound registers on the dongle, even though no sound comes out of my earphones and the computer seems to recognize when I put them in or take them out.

Output of ' aplay -l '
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '

Re: Speakers play sound; headphones and USB audio card do no

fyi i recently bought an Asus c101 pa and returned it under warranty because the headphone jack wasn't being detected by chrome os.

Chrome should offer you a small arrow type device on the RHS of the volume control when the headphone jack is plugged in.

This didn't happen on my first box but the new one works fine.

UPDATE: for what it's worth, i have the same problem in archlinux, but not in chrome os
