How to offer some changes for installation instructions?

Postby leadrig » Sun Jul 01, 2018 11:37 am

I've noticed this on all installation instructions (example https://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv8/generic):
Extract as the root user (not via sudo) using bsdtar to preserve extended attributes and ACLs:
Code: Select all
bsdtar -xpf ArchLinuxARM-aarch64-latest.tar.gz -C mountpoint

I am some kind of perfectionist, so I want to offer developers this changes:
  • Remove option -p from bsdtar command, as "the default if tar is being run by root" (see man bsdtar -> option -p)
  • Remove "(not via sudo)", as I don't see any problems with using sudo. I've found only one issue with using sudo with bsdtar, but it is solved now (see https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/43584). If I am not right, please, tell me the reason, as I want to improve my linux knowledge.

That makes a lot of sense, Leadrig. I hope devs take this into account. Can't be too accurate when it comes to the installation instructions if you ask me.
