No HDMI Audio on PI 4 after update

Postby tiagoboldt » Thu Aug 15, 2019 10:01 pm

So, after the kodi for pi4 build, everything was working fine on my pi4, including 4k video. Last week or so an update killed my audio. I've tried setting HDMI out and alsa in kodi configs. I've tried the whole /boot/config.txt combinations, even with `hdmi_drive=2`.

Also, very important. After the same update, for some reason, the raspberry pi is DoS my Sony DN1080 amp. It stops detecting ARC from the TV. If I unplug the pi HDMI cable and plug it back again, ARC works again.

I'm running an up to date system. Suggestions?

My current boot config is:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'd')tparam=audio=on
avoid_warnings=1
gpu_mem=512
boot_delay=1
dtoverlay=pi3-disable-bt
dtoverlay=pi3-disable-wifi
dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d

Note: shutting down hdmi with `sudo /opt/vc/bin/tvservice -o` makes ARC work again, but getting it back with `tvservice -p` keeps the screen black, kodi doesn't come back on.

There are other reporting the same problem elsewhere: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=248094
I've been playing with hdmi_force_edid_audio=-1 and a bunch of other options to no success. I'm not being able to isolate this as a kernel, alsa or kodi issue.

Please provide your kernel version and a dmesg output.
Do you know which kernel version was able to provide HDMI audio for the Pi 4?

Hi,

Please find the dmesg output here: https://gist.github.com/tiagoboldt/0ef1 ... b0e64bf09c.

Unfortunately, I did not track the kernel version when it stopped working. I'm running the kernel released yesterday, Linux rpi 4.19.68-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Aug 29 00:24:13 UTC 2019 armv7l GNU/Linux

Thanks

I've been playing with way to much stuff and eventually *something* made it work again. Unfortunately, I cannot pinpoint what it was. No longer an issue though.
