booting a RasPi 3B+ from USB mass storage

Postby RichMorin » Sun Sep 29, 2019 11:49 pm

The RasPi 3B+ attempts to boot from a USB mass storage device if it finds no bootable microSD card. I've confirmed this capability by booting a current copy of Raspbian from a USB flash drive. However, I've been unable to boot a copy of F123Light (an OS derived from Arch Linux ARM) in this manner.

When I asked the F123Light folks about this, they asked me to check into the problem. This is way above my pay grade, so I'm hoping someone here can help out. Here are some initial questions; feel free to answer ones I haven't asked, but should have:

- Does Arch Linux ARM support this capability, in general, for the Raspberry Pi?
- What would a derived OS (e.g., F123Light) need to do, in order to enable this?
- Are there any files or references the F123Light folks should investigate?
