RPi 4 xfce-screensaver buggy behaviour

Postby crodjer » Wed May 27, 2020 2:02 am

I have setup Arch on my new Raspberry Pi 4. I have setup XFCE4 on it, with lightdm. The graphical interface performs absolutely fine at the start, reporting no issues. But after having run the system for 5-10 minutes, the X system freezes. It renders mouse movements correctly, but no clicks are registered. This is the Xorg.0.log:

[ 781.024] (EE) client bug: timer event4 debounce short: scheduled expiry is in the past (-2ms), your system is too slow
')

This freeze is always co-related with this error:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '(')EE) client bug: timer event4 debounce short: scheduled expiry is in the past (-2ms), your system is too slow

This was a issue that I could find with a similar error: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=96312
They say it may be because of a slow compositor.

How can I fix this in my system? I don't think it can be slowness because I can use the other consoles (tty 2) fine and use the system via SSH with no issues.

This is what my /boot/config.txt looks like:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '# See /boot/overlays/README for all available options

gpu_mem=512
device_tree_param=audio=on
initramfs initramfs-linux.img followkernel

[pi4]
disable_overscan=1
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_group=1
hdmi_mode=76
')

I had to force the modes because otherwise there would be no output at all from the HDMI.

Edit #1:

Having tried with some more modifications, I see that the timer event debounced error doesn't always show up. Yet the UI is hung - mouse pointer moves, but can't click anything.

Also, I tried not forcing a mode, which reuslts in 720p rendering on my TV (HD Ready and not 1080p), so that is still okay. That didn't make any difference in the freezes. I'll try to play with the video memory and post more updates here.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '# See /boot/overlays/README for all available options

gpu_mem=512
device_tree_param=audio=on
initramfs initramfs-linux.img followkernel

[pi4]
disable_overscan=1
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_group=1
# hdmi_mode=76
')

Edit #2:
I found out that it is actually a xfce4 locking issue. Whenever screen is locked, the screen stays the same but the inputs aren't going through. There is no prompt for password either. So, trying to figure out what's causing that issue.

Edit: #3
Updated title because this issue is in particular about xfce screensaver and nothing to do with X11/libinput. Earlier title was:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'Raspberry Pi 4 X11 input hung after a few minutes')
I have for now disabled locking with xfce4-screensaver and use light-lock instead.
