archlinuxarm on marvellorion@qnap

hey archlinuxarm Community,

about me, you find appended to this post.

...concerning an Archlinux installation. searching
for some hints and further ideas:

The archlinux should run on an Qnap TS 109 with Marvell Orion Armv5:

Uboot with 8MB flash for kernel and ramfs

The marvell development kernel, is working - of course. There is
an debian kernel starting in lenny which is working, also...

Archlinux Armv5 package kernel boots with a kernel panic.

Q 1: Is it possible to set up an Archlinux using the original kernel
from qnap?

Q 2: Is there already an working use case with howto somewhere?

THX

Hello kefko and welcome to the Arch ARM community,

Note that whatever steps you take, you will likely have to prepare a custom package containing your kernel. To do so, best have a look at the PKGBUILDs of the various kernels in the repo. For the general steps of preparing a custom Arch ARM image, I suggest this guide.

THX4REPLY!

i thought it will be possible to make something like boot into chroot
as usually in Android, and as i understood it... Using the original
kernel & ramfs from qnap which is already working well. Qnap is
using a u-boot, and then a ram kernel & fs. My opinion was that
i can tell the kernel not to use ramfs, instead going on an hdd
archlinux arm root.. But, right now i am not with that way anymore.

I will try to build an archlinux arm build for my device...

I would be very happy about some more documentation about building
an own archlinux arm package and about cross-building for arm.

sincerely

- short questions:

1 - Is QEMU a good choice for use as Crosscompile Virtual Machine?

2 - Do i have to build/create my orion kernel, ramfs and tool(root) system inside
of a chrooted VM, or maybe there is a better solution? Like an arm from
scratch to an arm bootloader or sth. (...)

I have the following building proposal:

distcc & toolchain: Client x86 - Master Qemu ARM
