Zero 2 W support

Postby MrGreen » Tue Nov 02, 2021 7:14 pm

Have grabbed a Pi Zero 2 W and tried to run default version of archlinuxarm on it. Basically had not net wlan0 showing up in ip addr.

Do I need to wait for a new version or try a different ARM..?

Work fine on my old Zero W without a problem

Thanks in advance

The current kernel and firmware package should support it. You might need to chroot into the media and update the packages. I do not believe the current image has these files on it. Please provide feedback if you go that route, ie do the packages work :D

Perhaps it's a good idea to roll out new tarballs? It's been a while since the last tarballs was updated.

pi0w VERSION 2

Postby jal » Wed Nov 03, 2021 5:50 pm

Hi,

The new pi0w is out: https://www.raspberrypi.com/products/raspberry-pi-zero-2-w/ with a $this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'q')uad-core 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53

So, an Armv8 chip. I tried installing ArchLinuxARM-rpi-aarch64-latest.tar.gz on it - I get stuck on the rainbow screen.

EDIT: Also ArchLinuxARM-rpi-2-latest.tar.gz, same deal.

Has anyone got arch running on this yet?

Cheers

I put card into my pi zero W and got system fully to date, still does not connect via wifi.... Will hook it up later [monitor etc] see if I can give any more info.

Know that 64bit support is not really a thing yet, 32bit would be fine for now. Not tried any other version.

NOTE you do need more power for Zero 2, will not work via my laptops usb port any more..

Found this https://waldorf.waveform.org.uk/2021/the-pi-zero-2.html

Seems you need 2710 dtb file.... looking at my pi i have 2708 ... going to try renaming see if it works other than that i guess will have to wait for an update.

@MrGreen - Were you able to chroot into your image and update it without modifying any dtb files? Did that fail to give a bootable system?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('MrGreen', 'I') updated image via my zero W... did not see any firmware updates certainly not ones related to Zero 2.

The kernel should be supplying the needed dtb without you modifying anything. Are you using linux-raspberrypi4?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '% pacman -Qo /boot/bcm2710-rpi-zero-2.dtb
/boot/bcm2710-rpi-zero-2.dtb is owned by linux-raspberrypi4 5.10.76-1
')
