Noob - Just got a P21

Postby boeingpilot » Mon Sep 12, 2011 6:28 pm

Ok, the last three days have been a learning experience, especially now that I realize that when you say Pogoplug, you may be talking of one of a number of hardware variants.

That said, trying to figure out what to do, without bricking the thing, is a little complicated for noob like me.

I understand that the P21 (Oxnam) variant can be problematic.

Here's my goals, maybe someone can point me towards a how-to? I would like to set my Pogoplug to be a samba server. Otherwise, would like to keep the the stock functionality. Is this possible? I like the CE interface to share things over the web, but backing up my computers to the pogoplug just doesn't work right. I'm hoping that a samba server to get things into it would work better.

Thanks in advance

Basics of what you are asking explicitly. However, I have never run backups of my pc to my Pro (not sure of speed?) On the client machine you could try DriveImage XML and point it to your samba share.

Also, for future reference and to avoid duplicate questions on the forums, check out the main page or use the search function. Don't get on the dev team's bad site so quickly haha.

Hope it helps!

EDIT:
If you don't like the way ALArm works, search the forums for a "revert" script to get back to CE's format

Windows 7 can backup directly to a samba share, and dependingon what and how the drive is connected, and the filesystem on that drive, you ill get somewhere between 2MB/s and 22MB/s
