Arch ARM package updates are less frequent than on Arch x86

Postby zoli62 » Fri Jul 05, 2024 11:19 pm

I have been using EndeavorOS on a PC and laptop for several years. I have recently had an iMac M3, on which I installed Arch Linux ARM on a UTM virtual machine with Archboot. Unlike EndeavourOS, which is known to be the closest to pure Arch Linux, I've noticed that packages are updated less frequently. For example, the Firefox browser is not newer than version 125. Is this really true or does it only apply to special packages?

Arch Linux ARM is the version of Arch Linux designed for ARM-based architectures, such as those found in the iMac M3. The package repositories and build process for Arch Linux ARM may not be as actively maintained as the main Arch Linux repositories for x86-based systems.

Arch ARM is actively maintained. Major rebuilds such as python and all affected packages can take days during which, mirror syncs are disabled to allow the entire set to hit the mirrors in a batch. Arch Linux uses staging and testing repos for this whereas Arch ARM does not.
