[Resolved] Cant see hostname

Postby Hardworking » Fri Nov 25, 2011 9:04 am

Hello again

So I have another small issue since getting my system up and running.

For some reason now I am unable to see my GoFlex Net with the hostname. I have tried changing it and rebooting etc, but no matter what I can only see it via the IP address.

I am pulling my hair out as it was working. :(

Cheers

UPDATE!!

Ok, I can now see the hostname appearing in my "Sharing" section of my Finder window (OSX)

However, the connection fails.

If I connect via IP Address it works.

Any ideas?

Do you have inetutils installed? Gives hostname command to system.
I might not help as the router/machine giving out ip addresses has to have dynamic dns

Thanks, but I may have solved my problem.

Because I only run Mac computers I decided to move on with my config and followed the "Time Machine" tutorial on this site.

The good news, now I can remove Samba altogether as the Time Machine config gives me everything I need.

It seems I can now create as many "Volumes" as I like and my Macs can see them all. :)

HAPY DAYS!!!

A little more info on my issue.

I am not sure if using the Time Machine guide is the best way to share out files to Macs or if I should use Samba.

It seems to work OK, but I am open to any advice on this.

Cheers
