[RESOLVED] .AppleDouble files

Postby Hardworking » Sun Nov 27, 2011 6:46 am

Hello,

I have a GoFlex Net running and have been using Samba to share my files. However, after setting up the system using the Time Machine guide, I see I can get to the files without the need of Samba.

The problem is that every directory seems to have a files added called .AppleDouble and I am fearful that if I continue to add all of my data to the NAS, I am going to have thousands of these files.

I can't seem to find an answer as to what they are.

Cheers
J

I can find plenty about WHAT they are - but nothing about if they will be a problem or not, and is it OK to continue on the way I am.

They don't seem to be needed because if I use the Samba share, they don't exist!!

You'll probably have tons of them, but with likely no impact on storage. I'd say just go with whatever works best for you.

they are not a problem, they are just osx resource forks...but if you really want to get rid of them a simple:

find . -name "._*" -print -delete

or

find . -name ".AppleDouble*" -print -delete

will remove em, but please bare in mind this might break a load of *****, so don't complain if that breaks or bricks your plug (and or your connection to your mac) it probably wont but im not taking any responsibility here
