MiniDLNA = Strange Happenings!!

Postby Hardworking » Sun Dec 04, 2011 12:36 pm

Hello All,

I have a GoFlex Net and have been running MiniDLNA and streaming to my Xbox 360 for a week or so all good. Today I watched a video all good.

Then tonight, I fired up the Xbox, and connected to my NAS - No Videos. WTF!!

So I rebooted the Xbox - Nothing.

Rebooted the NAS - Nothing.

Checked all the config (not that I changed anything) - All good.

After countless reboots the Xbox finally could see some videos - but only 7 Directories show up out of a possible 38 - They were all there earlier.

It has me stuffed. Nothing changed, I didn't do anything, and yet this happens.

Any ideas you can throw at this Noob, would be great.

Cheers
-J

After a reboot, minidlna may take some time to scan the media_dir. Any time I go through a reboot I'd have to wait close to 10 minutes before my music directory is completely up. The more you got, the longer it takes, so 38 full-lengths may take a few minutes :|
Do you have minidlna logging? If not, stop minidlna and remove the comment in /etc/minidlna.conf where it says "log_dir" (i believe the default is /var/cache/minidlna/, I have mine set to /var/log/) and try again, it'll tell you exactly when it starts/stops scanning directories and what kind of errors may come up. So after you uncomment it, run "minidlna -R" for a rescan and check the log every few minutes (running minidlna -d runs in "debug" but it outputs a ton of info) to see what it's doing.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

After much prodding I found that somehow every directory's permissions in my video library had been changed. I had been playing around with SabNZBD and Sickbeard - not with directory permissions though - and did not think they would do that!

After a Chmod, they all were available again.

Very weird if you ask me!
