.bashrc not working

Hello all,

I'm trying to set up some aliases for root on my pogoplug running archlinux. I created the .bashrc file in /root, but I can't get it to function. I tried naming it .bash_profile, I set permissions to 777, and I can't find any other informtaion on whether or not I even have it in the right place. Any ideas? I've spent a couple hours trying to Google a solution already. TIA.

Copy the /etc/skel/.bash_profile to /root/

edit it like your .bashrc,
