Atmel AT91SAM9G20 - Linux kernel 2.6.31 & Busybox 1.15

Postby mmmmmm » Thu Feb 23, 2012 12:46 pm

Hi,

I have a small embedded system runing a Linux 2.6.31 with Busybox 1.15 with a 400Mhz CPU (Atmel AT91SAM9G20), 32MB RAM.

I want to use it for the following:
- NAS (preferable NFS)
- DLNA Server
- torrent client

I have to say that I did not, yet, searched very deep on this forum for my asnwers, but maybe some one will take little time to give me some start-up information so it will save me few hours of searching.

I noticed that there are packages available for samba server, dlna (minidlna) and transmission, but my questions are:
- are the available packages on this forum compatible with my system?
- where are the packages available for download?
- are there any special installation instructions/steps available?
- do I need to install a toolchain to build the packages myself for my system? If so, where can I find instructions and download links?

I hope that someone will have little time to answer my questions.

Thank you!

It looks like CPU in the SoC is an armv5 (ARM926EJ-S specifically) and there are sources for newer kernels out there. We ought to be able to run on it, if you bring your own kernel.

Thank you WarheadsSE for your answer.
I would like to try with a Samba or NFS server.
Can you please give me some more directions?

For starting, I noticed that all packages have .xz extension. Where do I get the uncompressor for these? (windows or for my Linux)

Thank you!

I'm not trying to be rude, but I am not your manual.

pacman handles package installation (versioning, downloading, decompression, etc) all on it's own.

Got it. Thank you!
This is good information. I do not have pacman on my system. I will try to install one and see how it is going.
You've been very helpful. Thank you very much.

pacman is Arch's package management application. You'll need Arch Linux.
