VPN

Postby ygator » Fri Nov 05, 2010 4:14 pm

What I would like to do, but do not know how to go about doing it is to be able to VPN from a Windows computer (XP or 7) into my home network.

A. So on the Windows computer I would need VPN client software
B. Setup a Dockstar to be a VPN server

Can anyone point me in the right direction on getting this done?

I am going to see if this gets me anywhere:

Thanks,

Can they break into my VPN if I use unsecured wireless? My university provides free unsecured wireless, but I use a VPN to access the internet by going through my home computer which is on 24/7. Is there anyway some rogue from the IT department could hack my VPN?

Is either of the devices, at home or university, a plug computer? We need to arm ourselves with this info.
Not that I use VPN, but I thought it runs encrypted.

The entire connection should run encrypted. Thats the point of the VPN.

Another option is to use PuTTY or the like, and setup tunneling as a SOCKS 4/5 proxy (TCP only, as it stands), and make it simple on yourself for most purposes.

If openvpn is configured and working then it should not be an issue as the key exchange is a secured protocol.
