Driver for NXP PCF8523 (used by Raspy-Juice) ex 3.8 roadmap?

Postby more10 » Mon Jan 14, 2013 2:46 pm

linux kernel 3.8 rc3 has a driver for NXP PCF8523 used by Raspy-Juice. With this driver the RTC on Raspy-Juice will work early in the boot process.

Does anyone know when 3.8 will be available?

Looks nice
You going to as on their forum
http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/index.php
We get kernel upstream from them, but patch in of this sort of thing is possible
Get patches and I'll look, but do you have the hardware?

I got the hardware. Since I don´t want to (not qualified enough :-) ) compile my own kernel I will wait for the 3.8 kernel (from kernel.org). Just want to know if there is a roadmap for its release.

Another thing that has occured to me is if arch linux was more like plain arch (using mkinitcpio) this kind of driver could be loaded with hooks. No need for the driver to be compiled into the kernel.

No, if the module code doesn't exist in the tree, then it doesn't exist in the tree. Also, you can already use mkinitcpio, we just don't use one out of the box.

I cannot say that I understand how the kernel code is supported and how arch linux arm is built. All I know is that there are PCF8523 patches at kernel.org, and that it would be great if these where included in a future Arch Linux Arm (for Raspberry).

If that is going to happen I would like to know approximately when that can happen.

I am just an application programmer. The less I have to mess with the Linux itself the happier I am. The mkinitcpio was a suggestion on how to improve Arch Arm Linux for it users.

I think I could patch this on next kernel update

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pepedog', 'W')ant to upgrade and test now?

How do I upgrade and test this queued kernel build? May I ask what pacman command line to use?
