Ext2 or Ext3 for flash drive boot?

Postby jeajea » Tue Mar 12, 2013 11:28 pm

The installation instructions for the Dockstar warn against using ext3 or ext4 while the instructions for Pogoplug v2 tell you
to format as ext3. I also read somewhere that ext3 and ext4 increase the number of writes which may cause a flash drive
to fail sooner. My Dockstars are ext2. I recently purchased a Pogoplug v2 ($22.50 from Adorama) and used ext3 for its
boot partition.
Should the Pogoplug also be ext2? :?: :!: :?:

Ext3 has journaling which will mean more writes. Ext2 has none, fewer writes.

Downside to Ext2 : powerfail often equates to dead system on a flash drive. You pick the downside.

Also, NO SWAP ON FLASH.
