How to boot on different sized SD cards

Postby mwpowellhtx » Wed Mar 27, 2013 1:32 am

Hello,

I'm a growing novice LInux user, and definitely a newbie when it comes to ArchLinux-ARM, so bear with me please.

We've got a bootstream and a rootfs that did once load on a 2 GB SD card. Now we want to load on a larger 16 GB SD card. I've partitioned the bootable partition (x53), and partitioned the other partition for Linux (x83), and formatted Linux using ext3 like the old SD card. However, all we get is the Linux penguin. No login like with the 2 GB card.

Observations, no clue about the sector sizes. Could possibly be something about that. Also, I don't know what's going on with the bootable partition. It's 41 MB instead of the 34 for the 2 GB card.

From my limited exposure to embedded system, it's also not uncommon for a boot image to want to load an application, in this case Linux on the rootfs, from a known, sometimes hard-coded address.

Any ideas what we might look into, would be appreciated. Thanks!

Regards,

Michael Powell
