RaspBerry PI vs MK808

Postby joaocandre » Sat Apr 27, 2013 6:33 pm

Hey everyone,

So, I have both a Raspberry Pi and a MK808 Android Mini-PC (with an Allwiner dual core 1.6GHz and 1GB DDR3) and was wondering what the best setup for my home server would be. I want to have a 24/7 samba server/NAS also running hosting services like SparkleShare or OwnCloud. On the other hand, I want to have a Media Center on the TV - able to play hi-def Videos and Skype.

Obviously I don't think the R-Pi alone could handle this much - and seeing as the MK808 is way faster than the R-Pi, would it be possible to use it to perform all of these tasks? Or would I be better served using the R-Pi as a server and the MK808 as a client/media center on the TV? Is it even possible to run SparkleShare or OwnCloud servers using Android? And what would the performance impact on video playback / file sharing speed of using the MK808 for everything at once?

Thanks in advance for any advice you might give me!
