Dockstar not showing in Windows, Mac yes.

Postby elk29n » Wed Jan 26, 2011 3:46 am

Ok, noob here.
First off, thanks to all of you guys who made this possible. Great applications of this device!

I have been running Arch Linux ARM install on my dockstar for a while with 2 NTFS HDs mounted. While in the middle of a file transfer (through Windows), the dockstar crashed. I rebooted and now the dockstar doesn't show up in Windows but it does in my Mac and I can access it through SSH.

I've checked my smb.conf file and that seems fine. I can ssh fine, run transmission, and play movies from the Mac but nothing in windows.
I ran fsck on the Mac and get BAD MAGIC NUMBER error. I tried alternate super-blocks but nothing.

Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Edit: interesting enough, in my /media it now shows 2 usb HD locations plus my mounted drives. How is that possible?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '[root@Arch Linux ARM install media]# ls
Movies_2 Movies_And_TV usbhd-sda1 usbhd-sdb1 usbhd-sdc1
')

First off, make sure you plug these NTFS drives into a Windows machine and check the file systems.

As for the duplicate mount points... I personally can't speak to that.

I'll try that but wouldn't the drives be assumed to be okay if they can be accessed and used through a mac?

Just a thought. Trying to learn.

Ok so I checked the filesystem on both HDs and they're fine. Thanks WarheadsSE!

Also I noticed that my existing mapped drives show up on my netbook and my WDTV Live box but the Arch Linux ARM install itself doesn't show up on any Windows machine.

Seems like its an obvious Windows type issue but all the machines haven't changed their configuration except the Arch Linux ARM install failing during a copy.

Any other ideas? I really appreciate anyone's help in this issue.

Has the plug acquired a new ip address lately?
Can you access it via ip address, ie \\192.xxx.x.xxx

Pepedog,
Thanks for responding!
Yes I can still access it via 192.168.xxx thru SSH or on the mac thru server address.
But I cant see it on the network via Windows (all machines I have are win 7 ultimate).

EDIT: Funny thing is I can map the network shares as drives via Windows but I can't see the Arch Linux ARM install itself.

Stop samba and delete files in /var/cache/samba and /var/lib/samba

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pepedog', 'S')top samba and delete files in /var/cache/samba and /var/lib/samba

Ok I did that. They still don't show up in windows but now (and I think its unrelated to the file deletion)
the drives show up EMPTY!

I tried a reboot and a stop/start of the samba server. Is the filesystem damaged or its the Samba package the culprit?

It would seem easier to start a fresh install all over again but its bugging me as what happened and how I can prevent it in the future.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the PlugLinux is running on a ext2 formatted 2GB USB flash drive (SanDisk). Maybe thats core of my problems?
