NOOBS - Arch - SSH - Connection Refused

Postby heronr » Thu Jul 24, 2014 8:21 am

Hello all,

I've done some searching on this topic, but what I've found doesn't seem to be the answer so far. So I'm hoping this will be an easy one for someone here?

I've done a NOOBS install on a RPI B+ model for Arch, I've connected up my Ethernet and got a standard IP fine, then done a Pacman -Syu which also worked fine. I installed networkmanager and connected up my wireless, then disconnected my ethernet, rebooted and confirmed my wireless gets an IP and can update / find new packages as required.

The problem I have is SSH'ing into this box, from other PC's I get a connection refused message. I've used nmaps and found all ports are closed. The sshd service is enabled and running, I've uncommented the obvious things in sshd_config like permitrootlogin = yes, port 22, and restarted the service but still can't seem to get anywhere?

From what I've read up, SSH is enabled by default on these installs so I shouldn't need to even use a keyboard locally but this hasn't been the case.

Does anyone have the same problem and know of a workaround? Thanks in advance, Rob.

This can happen if the rootfs is mounted readonly, which it might be if filesystem errors are detected. Use another Linux machine to run fsck on the rootfs partition.
