date trouble, pacman trouble, updates trouble

Postby coastal » Sun Feb 27, 2011 6:50 pm

I wanted to check that I had an updated system but I've hit an error.
I wanted to run pacman -Scc, pacman -Syyuf but was told to update pacman first which resulted in a missing library error (I guess).

I'm pretty new to linux so if you could help it would be appreciated.

I've now rebooted and get the following date trouble (though i did set it using date in last boot)

Last login: Wed Dec 31 18:22:28 1969 from 192.168.1.81
Changing password for root.

Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
[root@Arch Linux ARM install ~]# pacman -Syu
pacman: error while loading shared libraries: liblzma.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I'd be quite tempted to blank the drive and start again with the installation...

I noticed the date wasn't being set the other day but this evening I ran through the February update as a starting point to trying out some fixes.

googling a bit has turned up a few archlinux threads about rebuilding the kernel.

You had better read this http://Arch Linux ARM.com/index.php5/PlugApps_February_Update
Whis basically says-
WARNING: DO NOT UPGRADE PACMAN IN THE SECOND STEP!
pacman -Scc # say yes twice! (to clear cache and unused repos)
pacman -Syyfu --ignore 'pacman' # DO NOT upgrade pacman at this point, seriously, DON'T
pacman -Sf iana-etc pacman e2fsprogs # Now upgrade pacman

Thanks.

The lzma fix root doesn't look noob enough for me to follow without tripping up. If I were to replace the rootfs as I understand it I do the following;

switch off pogoplug (shutdown command?)
remove usb stick.
boot up a machine with linux live.
unpack tarball to usb stick
usb stick back in pogoplug and power up

and continue with default install instructions - set MAC address, install the rescue system etc..?

TIA.

Thanks Admin,
that worked a treat. I had to reformat the stick in the end as the permissions wouldn't transfer correctly.

I've learnt a little. :-)
