[SOLVED] Can't Install tar.gz with pacman -U

Postby ArchiMark » Tue Oct 27, 2015 12:54 am

When I try to install from a tar.gz file I downloaded, I get:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', '
# pacman -U /root/pccardctl.tar.gz
error: missing package metadata in /root/pccardctl.tar.gz
error: '/root/pccardctl.tar.gz' : invalid or corrupted package
')

I've redownloaded file again, but same error message.

I tried some other tar.gz files and get same error message.

I know someone else that downloaded and installed this way and it worked for them.

Any suggestions as to how to get this working?

Thanks,

Mark

Someone else you saw probably downloaded something like *.pkg.tar.xz which was created my makepkg.
What you are trying to do will never work because it is not a package that you feeding to pacman.

Thanks for your help....

The other person downloaded the exact same file from the forum where it was posted....

Perhaps when the file is uncompressed, it is a *.pkg.tar.xz file...

Or a *.tar.xz file....

So, sounds like you're saying that only a *.pkg.tar.xz file will get installed via pacman......

If so, that I assume that file was installed another way.....

pccardctl is used for PCMCIA, is it not?

Yes.....

OK, got it figured out finally.....

pccardctl was a binary, so, just needed to decompress it....

systemd file was a pkg file after I decompressed it. Then I was able to use pacman -U to install it....

Problem was that I was started with trying to install the pccardctl file, so of course pacman wouldn't work on it.....

Thanks for your help.
