Play Midi Files

Postby Dusan » Sun Feb 14, 2016 6:20 pm

Does anybody know how to make play midi files in the Arch Linux ARM? So far I searched a lot, but nothing works, from Gnome Totem player I get the message: An error occurred, Could not get/set settings from/on resources. Thank you

You can use Timidity with FreePats, which you can install with the below command...
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'sudo pacman -S timidity{++,-freepats}')
...then you need to set your soundfont up. and I'm assuming you don't mind using the FreePats (Which will do for basic stuff). To use FreePats, just add the below to /etc/timidity++/timidity.cfg
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'dir /usr/share/timidity/freepats
source /etc/timidity++/freepats/freepats.cfg')
Now you can play the midi using the below command, substituting $midi with your midi file...
$this->bbcode_second_pass_code('', 'timidity "$midi"')
The Arch Wiki covers other soundfonts.
