openssh 7.2p2-1 - bad ownership or modes for directory

It seems with the newest update of openssh I get a "server refused our key" message and journal advises me about bad ownership or modes (for /root in my case). I double checked them but in my opinion they are in order as well as downgrading the package (aside of turning off strict mode) does resolve the problem.
