Took another stab at this tonight... and very excited to see ALARM on my list of devices on the router!
I have an 80 gig 3.5inch SATA that I am powering from a computer power supply and directly plugged into the internal SATA port on the pogo plug. Using a cheap amazon SATA to USB converter on laptop running a live version of Archlinux (Ubunto wasn't working for me) to setup the drive.
What seems to have held me up was getting the partitioning sectors right on the first partition, but now I'm there. I didn't expect the LED to keep blinking, but owell!

In the 2.6.31 kernel, the SATA is capable of > 60MB/s, where as the USB is clocked at load to be between 10-22MB/s for HDD access. Of course, the busier the USB, the slower it gets. There is a noticable performance difference, especially when it comes to using swap.

Hi,
I would ask some help booting from SATA.
I have Pogoplug Classic P24 with Alarm installed.
No problem with booting ALARM from USB HDD, but would like to boot from sata.
Followed instruction from first post here, but failed to boot sata.
Symptom: Pogo start blinking but after 5-10 blink stop it and became black. No ping no ethernet activity of course no ssh.
I built a serial connection and now it is clear where it is stopped - But not for me.
(By the way I will do a serial howto for newbes like me. )
Can you please WarheadsSE help me?

I believe the P24 does not have PCI, are you using the PCI image(uImage.pci) by any chance? If yes, try the non-PCI kernel(uImage).
