Two Pogoplug Pros Not Working

Postby Rick » Fri Jan 27, 2012 6:58 pm

Hello,

I have two Pogoplug Pros that aren't working anymore. They both just blink green and I cannot ping either of them.

On the first Pro everything was fine but then I messed up the flash drive that had Arch installed onto it.

The second Pro I installed Arch on it and everything was fine.
Then I plugged the flash drive into my computer and changed /usr/local/mac_addr to the first Pro's mac address.
Then I plugged the flash drive into the first Pro and it still didn't work.
I used the bottom section of this guide http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6 ... provideov3 to install Arch on a new flash drive from my computer.
I tried to boot up both Pros with the new flash drive and neither worked.
So then I changed the mac address on the good flash drive back to the second Pro's and tried to boot the second Pro and now it won't work.

If there isn't a way to fix this will the Pogoplug team know I voided the warranty?

Did you extract the rootfs as root, or just as a regular user using sudo?

The reason I asked is because the blinking light means that the kernel has successfully loaded from nand. There is a kernel module that turns off the blinking light once the OS is close to finished loading. I'm going to assume that it's an issue with the method or the media. The rootfs will successfully boot even if the /usr/local/mac_addr isn't there. It will just have a default mac, which would be bad if you have two devices on the network. Try formatting the flash drive again, making sure it's ext3, extract the rootfs onto it, do an ls on the drive to make sure all necessary stuff is in there, unmount it and try again.

Alright thanks, I'll try again tonight. Right now I'm running Arch Linux on my computer maybe I'll try my Dad's Ubuntu machine. For Ubuntu just "sudo su" for logging into root to extract the rootfs?

I am now able to connect via SSH, but now the light blinks at first for a little bit and then turns off completely. Does the light turning off mean something isn't working?

Edit:
Could it be because I updated and replaced udev-oxnas with udev and replaced module-init-tools with core/kmod?

if u have 2 pogos, why do you upgrade both at the same moment. maybe upgrade on first and check it. IF everything is okay, upgrade the other.
