Given that the U-Boot I built for this distro is the first modified version I've seen out in the wild, not likely to be finding any Mobile/V4 units with anything other than stock.
Arch Linux ARM exists and continues to grow through community support, please donate today!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('mlitke', 'J')ust a follow up to my post. The location where the J11 pins attach are indeed holes that go all the way through and are just filled with solder. I have attached a header and can see the boot messages. If there is any interest, I can dump them here.

Thanks for the info! even though I don't need serial now, since I've found that my used Pogo Series 4 wasn't a brick, after all (apology to kmihelich :-) A fresh rootfs have fixed the problem. So to others who might run into difficulty booting, try a new rootfs on your USB drive. It might just be your only problem.

I would like to report that I currently use this experimental u-boot:

My PP Mobile has been running Archlinux from SDHC for days now. The boot process is rock stable as well. It's great to run Archlinux from a fast Class 10 SDHC, because the only USB connection is now available for my USB DAC ;)

I'm curious about your header and cable. I noticed that the holes are 0.079" (2mm) pitch rather than the 0.1" of the pink version which matches a CD-ROM audio cable/header.
I'm not much of a hardware hacker so all advice would be useful.

Ok I have a header attached and one of these USB-TTL converters: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C8KGRRA/ref ... 25410_item
Only the converter above is connected to 5V rather than 3.3V like so:

I suppose I need to move that connection over?
Also just want to confirm that the TxD on the USB-TTL converter gets connected to RxD on the PP as labeled here:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('emkay', 'F')rom top to bottom (where top is nearest to the sdcard tray* and bottom is nearest the side with the connectors):

  • - ground
  • - rx
  • - tx
  • - 3.3v

This is for the PPv4 - I don't know if the Mobile has the same pinout, but I would be surprised if theres a difference...

Make sure to use a level shifter to TTL 3.3v and connect gnd with gnd, 3.3v with 3.3v, rx with tx, tx with rx.

EmKay

* the mobile does not have SDcard... So: look from top onto the PP and have the connectors for USB, network, power facing south ;)

So this post is wrong WarheadsSE? Makes things easier if so.

Shall I put in large bold?

While emkay has the correct pin out, he is in error about connecting Vcc. The board supplies its own power, thus, attaching Vcc is entirely erroneous, and possibly damaging.
