Mele A1000

Postby qiou » Wed Mar 28, 2012 6:27 pm

Hi,

Recently discovered a new set top box, ARM based named "Mele A1000"

CPU : ARM CortexA8 1GHz
RAM : 512 MB DDR3
FLash/NAND : 2 GB

More info on Rhombus Tech website about the hardware.

So I was wondering about archARM support ? I'm new to ARM devices, 2 years old on ArchLinux (on my laptop Acer 4820TG).
I'm currently surfing the archlinuxarm website to see the architecture of other supported devices.

If anyone has some information, I'm interested.

Thx,
Q.

You'd likely have to bring your own kernel, but seemingly it should run our v7h repo.

I have a couple A2000 on order, I will probably roll my own kernel and see if it runs Arch ARM. It's fundamentally the same except it uses 4GB of NAND vs 2.

Just got mine last night (with usb ttl adapter as well). I spent a little time this morning playing with the included (chinese) android install. There's debian images out there but I'm a huge non fan of debian in general. This week i'll be hard pressed to find much time to work on this though (work meetings, trip, etc).

The android install is kind of choppy btw.

I've never cooked my own installation before so this should be interesting. Will have to look into how to slap together a distro base.

I wonder what the odds are that a 2.5" GoFlex drive would just slap into that bay?

Mali graphics, so there is an opensource driver stack in the works for that aspect... could be a viable lil box.

I've ordered one already. I'll try to install Arch on it and send here the details. My only concern is; I need to find a way to reset and revive the board. When I brick it and can't make it back it'll be a pity.

Cheers,
Conn

Got it yesterday and already testing... Will post back tonight.

Cheers,
Conn

Add: It took almost 20 days to arrive after ordering. China post is a bit slow I think. Is anyone out there who can show me a way to reset the board to factory defaults, with Android and everything? I don't wanna start hacking if I can't make it back alive.

This should apply to all A10 devices according to the info on the page:
